The proposed cover art was an oil pastel painted by the author Tim Desmond. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers are in formation at high altitude. The focus is on the right side of the format, of the "Darla Gal" bomber, one of two fortresses named for the main character in the novel FOR THOU ART WITH ME. The left side of the format is for the wrap around or back cover.
